June 11, 1901, marks the birth of the Supreme Court. Act 136 of the Second Philippine Commission, the judiciary Law, took effect on that date. By virtue of that law, judicial power in the Philippine Island was vested in the Supreme Court, Court of First Instance, and Justice of the Peace Court. Other courts were subsequently established.
Even before June 11, 1901,institution exercising judicial power were already in existence.Before the Spaniards came, judicial authority "in its primitive form" was in the hands of barangay chiefs. During the early years of the Spanish regime, this powers were vested upon Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, the first governor-general of the Philippines. He administered civil and criminal justice under the Royal Order of August 14, 1569.

The first suggestion of flight by means of apparatus lighter from air came from De Lana, who in 1670 suggested that a vessel exhausted of air, if itself light enough, would rise in the air. We know today that no material exist by means of which this idea could be realized, since the pressure would crush any material known. About the same time the line of attack through gliding began to be realized, and experiments in this direction and that of flapping wings probably never ceased. People were always attaching some kinds of wings to themselves and jumping off Church's tower and other elevated points, frequently having the luck to escape serious injury. Sir George Calley (1773-1857), an eminent English Mathematician, turn his attention seriously to the whole problem. He finally rejected the idea of the ' unhoped,' i.e, of flight human muscular power through flapping wings, and actually suggested that the final solution would come from an explosion engine, which for the year 1809 was the remarkable manifestation of prophetic genius. In the meantime there was the ascents of Montgolfier's balloon in 1873, fallowed by the first human ascent of Pilatre de Rozier in the same year. The word aircraft is commonly used to designate any type weight-carrying structure for navigation of the air, supported either by buoyancy or by the dynamic action of air against its surface. The idea of flying probably dates from the time when mankind first began possibilities of progress. The legend of Daedalus and Icarus, and the Eastern fables of flying horses and carpets certainly go back several hundred years B.C. It was natural that these legends should lead to continued efforts,most of them probably forgotten, to make wings and use them as a bird does. It is characteristic of the modern age that the brothers Lilienthal, in 1861, started experimenting, by night for fear of ridicule, with a view to making birdlike wings for themselves; but Otto soon realized that patient scientific investigation would be necessary,and so became, through his experiments with gliders, one of the true pioneers of aviation; he was killed in a gliding accident. Leonardo da Vinci, the true father of the modern mechanical age, projected all kinds of machines which have since been realized, but though he was the first to suggest the air-screw, he failed to realize both its association with the lifting plane, and the probability that man's muscular power would never succeed in lifting him from the earth.
